Christmas Break 2009
Whew!!  What a great Christmas Break!!  Jenny and I travelled to Kansas City for the week and got to see some friends and family members that we missed very much.  We were blessed to have so many happy and smiling faces to see while we were there.  The trip was really fun and much needed since Jenny and I stay so busy throughout the rest of the year.  We really enjoyed each other's company for the 9 hour drive to and from.  I don't think we even turned the radio on during the entire trip!  Christmas Eve was beautiful as we received 8 inches of snow that started on Dec. 24th at around 4:30pm and kept falling even as we were driving home on the 26th.  I love white Christmases!!!  Now we are back to work and completely rejuvinated and relaxed.  It's amazing how a week away can give you a new perspective on things.  I am excited for the coming weeks to see what happens.

Happy Holidays!!
Travelling for the holidays can be one of the greatest times of the year if done properly.  Be sure to prepare for a healthy and safe vacation this Christmas season.  If you are driving for any distances, be sure to pack some healthy snacks.  This avoids the excessive calories, salts, and sugars found so often in the gas station snacking sections.  Pre-cut apples and peanut butter are great chioces for a road trip if you want to have something tasty that will satisfy your hunger between meals.  Also make sure to have your vehicle inspected thoroughly before departing on your journey.  There's nothing like a broken-down car on the interstate in the winter to put a damper on a good time.  Pack a blanket anyhow just in case you do have the incidental auto malfunction and the heater goes as well.  If you are travelling with children, make sure they have some way to entertain themselves.  There are multiple ways to accomplish this with the technology that we have available today.  Portable gaming systems and auto DVD players are wonderful for this.  :)  Last of all...  Don't Drink and Drive,  Buckle Up for Safety, and have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Truly Yours,

Talking about Despite Anti-Vitamin D Bias, CDC Stumbles on Deficiency Link to H1N1 Deaths

Despite Anti-Vitamin D Bias, CDC Stumbles on Deficiency Link to H1N1 Deaths
Despite Anti-Vitamin D Bias, CDC Stumbles on Deficiency Link to H1N1 Deaths Posted by: Dr. Mercola September 22 2009 | 14,891 views So far, Swine flu, H1N1, has killed thirty-six children in U.S. and analysis of CDC data indicates Vitamin D deficient children at higher risk of death. The CDC did not realize they discovered this. However, anyone familiar with the Vitamin D literature will recognize it.Almost two-thirds of the dead children had epilepsy, cerebral palsy, or other neurodevelopmental conditions like mental retardation. All of these neurological conditions are associated with childhood Vitamin D deficiency. Exacerbating the problem further, many of these kids take anticonvulsant drugs, which lower Vitamin D levels.58 million American children are Vitamin D deficient; 7.6 million are severely deficient. When researchers looked at more than 6,000 American kids (age one to 21) who were carefully selected to be representative of the average American child. 9 percent of the kids had 25(OH)D levels less than 15 ng/mL and 70 percent had levels less than 30 ng/mL.

High Fructose Corn Syrup
I saw a really disturbing ad on TV the other night saying that using HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) is just the same as any other natural or artificial sweetener.  I was completely astounded by this claim since we have the highest consumption rates of HFCS in the world as well as being the most obese nation ever in history.  Don't believe everything you hear on TV is what my mother used to tell me and this sound advice is true now more than ever.  Corporations that produce things like food additives and pharmaceuticals are trying to profit from our ignorance.  You don't learn all you need to know about food products from Nutrition 101 in college.  Find a professional with training in food products and nutrition and seek their advice.  In the meantime, my favorite website has some good information that pertains to this topic.

Mother Teresa
I found a quote from one of the most influential and inspiring people of the 20th century that humbled me and made me take a quiet moment to be introspective.  Ialways appreciate an inspirational quote and here is one of my all time favorites.

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered. Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies. Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you. Be honest anyway.

What you spend years building, someone may try to destroy overnight. Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous. Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway.

Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough. Do it anyway.

You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and God.

It was never between you and them, anyway.

-Mother Teresa-
